To celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary, my husband and I went with our two sons on Saturday afternoon to see Star Wars in Concert in our local arena. What a wonderful evening together.
I couldn't imagine what a Star Wars concert would be like so I'm assuming you may not know either. It's a full symphony orchestra playing much of John Williams' music that he wrote for the two trilogies. There is a full choir to sing the ah------------s and ooo------------hs as background vocals. A friend of mine was in the choir and sent me two links to listen. #1 #2
There is a light & laser show. The show in Tampa (my husband and son went to it in November) had fire / pyrotechnics. The one we attended here did not.
Anthony Daniels (C3PO) is the narrator and he was delightful. He looks kind of like the Wizard of Oz in this photo. :)
There is a huge screen on which is projected film montages from all six Star Wars movies. They focus on generally one character at a time and present footage of the best scenes in which you see that particular character...a progression in life for that one, i.e. Anakin Skywalker from childhood to Jedi apprentice to turning to the Dark Side to being redeemed in the end. That segment was titled A Life Redeemed.
In addition to the show, there is a gallery in the lobby of the arena with film memorabilia and props from the six movies, including original storyboard drawings and handwritten music by John Williams.
Lots of people were walking around dressed in costume and many of the girls/women had Princess Leia hairdos. :) Lots of fun in the lobby, too. I think I saw the littlest Darth Vader I've ever seen.
We were particularly blessed in our seating. I had purchased the least expensive tickets (upper level of the arena) since there were four of us going together. We arrived and were told by an usher that we could exchange them for "better" seats. We neglected to look at the tickets. She seated us on the far left of the stage with a roaming camera in front of us on the 2nd level of the arena, plus we were not all seated in the same row! About 10 minutes before the show began, our older son found the supervisor while the rest of us waited in those seats. We kept calling on our cell phones...amazingly, the supervisor exchanged our tickets again and we ended up in the best seats in the house--lower level (not floor) right behind the audio/visual station front and CENTER. We couldn't believe it! Thank you, Lord.
After the show we had dinner at the Olive Garden and then came home to watch, what else? Star Wars: Episode I. We'll probably watch all six movies over the next week or two. :) May the Force be with you. A special family outing, for sure.
