Yard Sales, Fall

What a beautiful fall day in Florida! I got up and it was actually in the low 60s outside. I opened several windows and a couple of the back doors to let the fresh air in. My husband's off to the Gator game in Gainesville today so I headed to a nearby community yard sale and got several items to resell as well as three items for myself.

These are the three items I bought for myself for $5.00 total:
Two cute leather purses ($1.00 each) and this beautiful beaded formal evening dress ($3.00).

Shopping outside sure can be a lot of fun!

FINANCES: Yard Sales

Proverbs 16:9
The mind of man plans his way,
But the LORD directs his steps

I love a good bargain. I love the thrill of the hunt for things for our family, for gifts (new with tags only) and for eBay resale items. I usually prefer to shop alone at these to sort items my head of what I'm looking for--family items, gifts and/or eBay resale items. It's a great way to stretch your budget dollars and helps me be a good steward of our finances. Here is one of my favorite stories of God's provision for us through a neighborhood yard sale:

I had been praying for a Vita-Mix to make healthy smoothies, add more fiber and veggies to our diet, etc. They retail between $500-$600. I was at a neighborhood yard sale and saw some Juice Plus vitamins for sale. I thought that was the next best thing to a Vita-Mix so I bought a case for $2 (they are quite expensive normally). That same day I was chatting with another neighbor about this and she offered me her Vita-Mix Super 5000 for $150. That's still a lot of money for a kitchen appliance, but I bought it anyway. It had only been used once or twice and even included a cookbook and a dry container for grinding flour, coffee beans, etc. I couldn't believe that she didn't want it anymore. I didn't need both the vitamins and the Vita-Mix so I listed the Juice Plus in my eBay store and sold the case for $100. My practically new Vita-Mix only cost $50. God provided amazingly for a very specific prayer which was so encouraging to us. What are you praying specifically for AND watching to see how He will provide?

FUN: Saturday fun

There is an appointed time for everything.

And there is a time for every event under heaven—

Ecclesiastes 3: 1

Saturdays are often for fun at our house. Sometimes fun just happens; other times it's more planned. I'm a firm believer in putting a spoonful of sugar in just about everything so that it's more enjoyable to do. And no, I'm not practically perfect in every way. :) My husband and I enjoy yard sale-ing together on Saturday mornings. Sometimes we go out for breakfast and/or coffee; other times like today, we just bring our own. I scan the online newspaper for sales and we head out, usually not far from home, for "the hunt". We look for eBay treasures to resell and sometimes things for us to use as well. We found both this morning--a nice piece of Disney artwork for Bob's office at work ($15.00) and 7 items to resell ($9.59).  The things we bought are in the photo above.   We both love a good bargain, going for a car ride, talking to new people we meet while we're out and just having a weekend jaunt. Being outside in nice weather and getting fresh air is always a plus, too. Today we ran into one of his old childhood friends and had a pleasant visit with him. We had to pick up our younger son from a sleepover and stayed awhile to chat with the family there. Tonight we're having dinner with friends from church which is always fun --talking and eating are always a winning combination. Right now, I'm off to bake brownies for the boys and a cake for a luncheon on Sunday afternoon. I guess I'll literally be putting a spoonful of sugar in this afternoon. :)  Go, have a little fun somewhere yourself today.

RECIPE: Kale Soup

Kale comes in such large packages. I don't really like it as well raw as cooked and  I had a LOT to use up. Found this recipe for kale ...
