Take Time for Hobbies

I thoroughly enjoyed taking the time this afternoon and re-watching this FREE webinar  (for a limited time) by Jeremy Cowart.  One of my sons worked with him on a project last year, otherwise, I would not have known about this amazing photographer.  I learned a lot and now it's time to practice shooting photos!! :)  (my favorite hobby)

The suburbs ... Land of contrasts

Only in the suburbs can you find lost tennis shoes and a Rolls Royce in the same neighborhood.

Share A Coke : Is Your Name on the Bottles?

Is your name on the bottles in Coke's new campaign?  Not surprisingly, mine is not.  BUT there is a way to make a virtual Coke bottle with yours on it.

Just go to THIS SITE and follow the instructions.   Very simple and fun to do.

Garters for sheets ?

I had to laugh when I saw this for sale at Bed, Bath & Beyond.  Long ago (in the 1960s) girls and women used to wear these to hold up stockings. Thank goodness for pantyhose which came into vogue in the 1980s, if we wore them at all.   Funny that they're used to hold sheets in place today.  I imagine you could use them to hold tablecloths in place as well.  :)

Letting go of your fears -- balloon ride

This past weekend I denied my fear of heights/ falling and went up in a balloon with my family.  It was actually spur of the moment so I didn't have much time to think about it... And it was so much fun!  My sons and husband were as thrilled as I was to do it with me.

I wonder  if there is a "Way of the Wild Heart" for women!

2Tim. 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.

P52 Sweet Shot Tuesday Week #25

I love gift shops and arts and crafts.  I don't make much myself, but I love looking at the creativity of others and always admire what  people can do with their hands. I was a vendor in an arts and crafts fair recently and someone had made these cute hand towels.  Does this sound like anyone you know?  :)

Orlando Gallery Hop Third Thursday of the Month

One of my artsier friends let me know about this monthly event  [the 3rd Thursday of each month] in downtown Orlando.  Sounds like fun.  Mark your calendar for  October 20 to check it out.

As far as I can tell from the site, it is a free event except for the cost of parking.

The third Thursday of every month, thousands of visitors converge in the core of the Downtown Arts District for the 3rd Thursday Gallery Hop. They come to celebrate art and partake in an evening of sights, sounds, food, shopping, and cosmopolitan fun.

Though many shops are open earlier, the Gallery Hop officially starts at 6:00 p.m. and runs to 9:00 p.m. with restaurants and bars staying open considerably later.
On a typical Hop, series of galleries and non-traditional art venues (think restaurants, boutiques, and salons) spotlight the best of established and emerging Orlando-based artists as well as the works of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists. Street artists and performers settle into the many nooks of the District to entertain the throngs of Downtown fanatics. Up-and-coming bands, dance troupes, even mimes and stage characters add to the unforgettable experience. Expect the unexpected as each month is uniquely an experience in art and culture.

Farrell's Ice Cream

We have some dear friends whose last name is Farrell and thinking of them last week reminded me of Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour that was popular here in the 1970's. Anyone remember it?  It used to be here in one of the larger malls and closed down many years ago.  I thought they were totally out of business until I googled  and discovered they still exist in a few states.

We used to have so much fun going there for birthdays and just to celebrate life when I was in college.  We never even thought of calories, cholesterol or sugar. We just went and had fun together there.  As I remember,  your ice cream was free on your birthday and I vaguely recall a giant sundae that was on the menu as well.    I also remember that was a lot of running around and noise when a particular dessert was ordered but I don't remember which one.  Oh, well, if you have one in your area, be sure to check it out!

Those were the days...  :)

Pinterest

Have you tried the new (at least new to me) website called Pinterest?  It's like a virtual bulletin board.  If you visit websites often and see things that you like but don't want to fill up your bookmarks toolbar with endless links or keep a list elsewhere, this does it for you.  As far as I can tell, it is for PHOTOS only but you can add as many comments as you want in the description.  You can make your own categories of your interests.  It appears to be public only, rather than private...but may come in handy so I'll give it a try.  HERE are some of my "boards".

How  about you?

If you'd like to try it, click on THIS LINK for more information.

Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard.
Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes...

Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Part 2 MIDNIGHT PREMIERE JULY 15, 2011

The saga has officially ended.  Unless you live on the moon you know exactly what I'm talking about--the final movie  of  the Harry Potter series premiered last night.  In a previous post I told about my very first midnight premiere for Part 1 back in November.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2,  was well done, staying with the book's details for the most part, and tying up all the loose ends.  If you haven't read the books or seen the previous movies,  you might not realize what all the loose ends were though.   Good triumphs over evil but at extreme sacrifice for many.

After a quick run to StarBucks for coffee, I attended this premiere with one of my sons (this was his Mother's Day gift to me) and several of his friends, about a group of 20+.

Before the movie the theatre played a flashback short of the three child actors and how they have grown up over the last 10 years. Here is A LINK to literally watch them grow.

Some people were dressed in costumes...

Most came as themselves, like we did. :)  I again wore my Hogwarts pin, a souvenir from our Universal Studios / WWofHP outing last year, and carried a Hogwarts scarf that I bought at our church rummage sale last month [selling this on Ebay now]. Unlike last year's premiere in the winter, this was a WARM evening.

A fun night but be sure to take some tissues...enough said about that.

If you're wondering if you and/or your children should see this film or any others in the series, or read the books, here are good reviews  on this movie and the book from Focus on the Family's Plugged In entertainment website for you.   Don't be afraid of these books/movies since they are so much of our popular culture but be informed and DISCUSS them with your children and friends.  It's a fantasy world with lots of magic definitely, but also one of enduring friendship and fighting for what is important.  There are also accurate summaries of all the books on SparkNotes  if you prefer to not tackle seven 800+ page books so late in the summer.

Saturday Sights / A Day in the Life Of Me...

Just a few photos from Saturday in the park...

The first one is the  cutest--have you ever seen a bunny on a leash?  :)

There was an ASGO event going on in the park...

Heavy rains from the night before left a full fountain and lots of  water in the gardens...

A bear selling clothes...

A bird selling jewelry...

My  husband didn't even notice this colorful storefront eye-catcher...

Hope you had fun enjoying interesting things all around you as you went about your day.  Did you pause to notice?

Just for Fun Photos / Red Hat Society

Just some random photos while running errands yesterday...

This is a beautiful lake  and park I passed on the way home.

In downtown Winter Park there was a group from the Red Hat Society coming out of the Morse Museum.  I always smile when I see these ladies on their outings.  They always look like they're having so much fun!   You can join when you're 50.  Mmmm....  Personally, I love red and purple together. :)

If you don't know the story of the Red Hat Society, go to THIS LINK.

RECIPE: Kale Soup

Kale comes in such large packages. I don't really like it as well raw as cooked and  I had a LOT to use up. Found this recipe for kale ...
