Beth Moore JAMES Study Week 6

James 5:4-16

Here are some things I found very helpful from the workbook this week:

Day 1
Where is the line between saving and hoarding?  ...I asked God if He was unhappy with our household over our relationship to finances or possessions.

Day 2
A person has hardly begun to have a real fight on her hands until she starts serving in her full-throttle giftedness and effectiveness... He (Job) became a target precisely because he did so many things  right...  How will we ever know what He's accomplished in us if He doesn't show us?

Day 3
Relationships, regardless of their appearance, can never be stronger than the bond of trust between them.

Day 4
A sense of anonymity makes agony insufferable. To hurt that badly and still go unnoticed can leave you feeling swallowed alive in a cold, black hole...To stay alive and to thrive, the branch must abide in the Vine.

Day 5
Prayer can prime the well of our souls to a bath of His beautiful presence.  It is often the most determining factor in whether, in our anguish, we sink or swim.

Beth Moore JAMES Study Week 5

James 4: 1-17

These are a few of the things that I highlighted in the workbook from this week's study:

Day 1
Only He can sort out the blur of our motives. Let's have the guts to ask him what's in our hearts and when He reveals it, die to the self-gratification and live for the greater glory.

Day 2
To have a warm, familiar attitude toward this evil world is to be on good terms with God's enemy....Friendship with God makes a person humble; friendship with the world makes a person proud. The former He graces. The latter He opposes.

Day 3
...you don't need to be the pitcher so many people in your sphere of influence look to for filing. Simply receive.

Day 4
We can go from a blessed awareness of expressing the image of God to playing God and not even feel the shift...Sometimes we catch ourselves in an act, thought or speech that belong to God alone.

Day 5
In the eternal scheme of things, He's only asking you to do this hard thing for a few minutes. You can be faithful.  It's not that long!

Thankful for our Home 15 years

I've posted before about this (click HERE) but I am so thankful for our home. It's just the right size, comfortable, affordable and has so many memories. We moved here when our kids were 9 and 4, so it's been full of laughter, playtime, birthday parties, lots of kids, friends and family.

This week marks 15 years in this house and it truly is a home... Thank You, Lord...

Benediction in your home

What is the last thing your guests see before they leave your home?  This framed piece hangs in our entryway just for that purpose.  We received it as a wedding gift 26+ years ago and I have always loved it.  The message is timeless, encouraging and sometimes a little motivation for families to pass on their spiritual heritage to their children.
May God be with you and bless you
May you see your children's children and thereafter possess life everlasting
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The second photo made me think of it as a benediction as the morning sunlight reminded me of church windows.  :)

Homemade Breakfast Sandwiches

I hope you're not making a frequent habit of going to a fast food restaurant for breakfast sandwiches... SO bad for your health.  At least when you make them at home you know exactly what is in them.  These are simple and delicious and take about 20 minutes to prepare.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Canned biscuits (I used Grands flaky, makes 8 large sandwiches)
  • Eggs
  • Cheese (optional)
  • Bacon (I used freeze-dried)
DIRECTIONS:

  • Bake the biscuits for 17 minutes
  • Scramble the eggs while the biscuits are baking. I added a little bit of cheese and milk.
  • Microwave the bacon for 45 seconds, longer if you like crispy bacon.
  • Split biscuits in half when still pretty warm
  • Fill with eggs and one piece of bacon (halved).
  • Makes 8 servings.  Store in the frig for the next day if you'd like.

Enjoy!

James Beth Moore Study Week 4

We took a week off so I could attend a convention with my husband...

I've highlighted all of these in my workbook from Week 4:

James 2:17-3:12

Day 1
If a person  keeps on saying he or she has faith but keeps on having no works then the person may not be saved.

Day 2
When He who was, who is, and who is to come sees each one of us, He sees who we were, who we are, and who we will become.

Day 3
If you are a teacher... many lessons will be taught to you before they're profitably taught through you.

Day 4
Sometimes you don't even realize you still have some of that old bitterness inside of you until something foul springs like a fountain from your mouth.

Day 5
Harsh people are never wise.

3 reasons to shop early at Sam's Club

Three reasons to shop during the early business hours at Sam's Club:

1.  A shady parking space.  In 90+ degree Florida summers, this is crucial! This was at 7:45 a.m.

2.  Hardly anyone is shopping  so no lines and there are still meat specials to pick up. :)

3. Fresh coffee !

Beth Moore James Study Week 3

Jas 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;

Jas 1:24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

Jas 2:13 For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.

Highlights (Beth's notes) from my study this week:

Day 1
God reminds us that He didn't plant His word in us just so we could divert it toward someone else's conviction or deliverance...it's first target is our own souls.

Day 2
The self-deception slithers in when we mistake appreciation for application or being touched with being changed.

Day 3
He doesn't ask us to do what doesn't matter. What seems a drop in the bucket to you is a sip from the wellspring of life to someone about to thirst to death.

Day 4
Prejudice of any form is never harmless, never funny, and never to be taken lightly. To sit back and say nothing is to cast a vote of approval.

Day 5
God knows the tendency of the pious to use preoccupation with Him as an excuse to ignore people.
