Beth Moore JAMES Study Week 6
James 5:4-16
Here are some things I found very helpful from the workbook this week:
Day 1
Where is the line between saving and hoarding? ...I asked God if He was unhappy with our household over our relationship to finances or possessions.
Day 2
A person has hardly begun to have a real fight on her hands until she starts serving in her full-throttle giftedness and effectiveness... He (Job) became a target precisely because he did so many things right... How will we ever know what He's accomplished in us if He doesn't show us?
Day 3
Relationships, regardless of their appearance, can never be stronger than the bond of trust between them.
Day 4
A sense of anonymity makes agony insufferable. To hurt that badly and still go unnoticed can leave you feeling swallowed alive in a cold, black hole...To stay alive and to thrive, the branch must abide in the Vine.
Day 5
Prayer can prime the well of our souls to a bath of His beautiful presence. It is often the most determining factor in whether, in our anguish, we sink or swim.

Beth Moore JAMES Study Week 5
James 4: 1-17
These are a few of the things that I highlighted in the workbook from this week's study:
Day 1
Only He can sort out the blur of our motives. Let's have the guts to ask him what's in our hearts and when He reveals it, die to the self-gratification and live for the greater glory.
Day 2
To have a warm, familiar attitude toward this evil world is to be on good terms with God's enemy....Friendship with God makes a person humble; friendship with the world makes a person proud. The former He graces. The latter He opposes.
Day 3
...you don't need to be the pitcher so many people in your sphere of influence look to for filing. Simply receive.
Day 4
We can go from a blessed awareness of expressing the image of God to playing God and not even feel the shift...Sometimes we catch ourselves in an act, thought or speech that belong to God alone.
Day 5
In the eternal scheme of things, He's only asking you to do this hard thing for a few minutes. You can be faithful. It's not that long!

James Beth Moore Study Week 4
We took a week off so I could attend a convention with my husband...
I've highlighted all of these in my workbook from Week 4:
James 2:17-3:12
Day 1
If a person keeps on saying he or she has faith but keeps on having no works then the person may not be saved.
Day 2
When He who was, who is, and who is to come sees each one of us, He sees who we were, who we are, and who we will become.
Day 3
If you are a teacher... many lessons will be taught to you before they're profitably taught through you.
Day 4
Sometimes you don't even realize you still have some of that old bitterness inside of you until something foul springs like a fountain from your mouth.
Day 5
Harsh people are never wise.

Beth Moore James Mercy Triumphs Week 1
Week 1, Day 5
Others have certainly written about Mr. Holland's Opus, myself included.... I love the section in today's lesson that refers to the words "in agreement" (Acts 15:15) which is symphoneo in Greek. It means "to agree" but is used as the root for our word symphony.
How wonderful that with all of our discord, annoyances and dissimilarities that we in Christ, can also be a symphony of the Lord's... HIS opus. :)

Beth Moore: James / Mercy Triumphs Week 1
Week 1, Day 4
Gal 5:25-26 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
...That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original. [Eugene Peterson]
Let's be crucified to pride and comparison. There's a big, needy world out there, and God's way of reaching it is to enlist everyone of us to do our parts in love and humility, variety and diversity. [Beth Moore]

Beth Moore: James / Mercy Triumphs Week 1
Week 1, Day 3
Assignment:
Choose a period of years in your own life (or do an entire timeline) that proved very strategic in your journey towards Christ or with Him. Make a timeline. It will remind you how faithful and intentional your God has been toward you. [Click HERE to see one that I have done previously.]
For me, 1978 (when I became a Christian) and 1982 (a recommittal after turning away for a time) were "turning point" years for me... What were yours?

Eccl 3:11 He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end.

Group Bible study at home
Last Friday I started a small morning ladies Bible study group in our home. Seven women attended this week, about 12 will come next week--a nice size for a small group study. I had been putting this off and finally decided to act. Since I usually do not work on Fridays it fits into my schedule well. As much as I value my time, I can give up one morning a week for a couple of months. Last summer I had completed a Beth Moore study on the book of James called "Mercy Triumphs". Excellent study, by the way. I had purchased the audios at the time and have had them for a year, thinking that one day I would share them. Last Friday was the day...
We'll meet for 7 weeks + a lunch together, ending the week after Labor Day. God's perfect timing.
If you have been waiting and pondering about something that the Lord has been nudging you to do, today may be the time... :) It doesn't have to be as involved as having a Bible study (but it could be). Invite a friend or two over for coffee or lunch, grab a Jeremiah's Ice and meet in the park for a visit or prayer, take a walk in the mall with a younger mom and her little one...be creative.
Just looking at this photo of some of the women pouring over their Bibles and writing notes while Beth is speaking, warms my heart. I have the audios, rather than the videos which I prefer. We are looking at each other rather than the TV. :) Making some coffee, tidying up the house a little, and being available for a few hours one morning a week...why did I wait so long?

Beth Moore -- James : Mercy Triumphs
Yesterday [Sept. 25, 2012] I finished my Beth Moore study that I began in April!-- James: Mercy Triumphs. I downloaded the 8 audio sessions from LifeWay Ministries ($3.99 each). Although I did it very slowly I thoroughly enjoyed it. Having purchased the audios, I can re-listen whenever I want. Perhaps in the future I'll have a small group over to go through them again.

January 31 = Proverbs 31
No woman is perfect but these are qualities we can all strive for. I have never met a woman who is like this ALL the time. These are not intended to be a "guilt trip", but they are God's Word of encouragement to us...
Prov. 31:1 The words of King Lemuel, the oracle which his mother taught him.
Prov. 31:2 What, O my son? And what, O son of my womb? And what, O son of my vows?
Prov. 31:3 Do not give your strength to women, Or your ways to that which destroys kings.
Prov. 31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, It is not for kings to drink wine, Or for rulers to desire strong drink,
Prov. 31:5 Lest they drink and forget what is decreed, And pervert the rights of all the afflicted.
Prov. 31:6 Give strong drink to him who is perishing, And wine to him whose life is bitter.
Prov. 31:7 Let him drink and forget his poverty, And remember his trouble no more.
Prov. 31:8 Open your mouth for the dumb, For the rights of all the unfortunate.
Prov. 31:9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, And defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.
Prov. 31:11 The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no lack of gain.
Prov. 31:12 She does him good and not evil All the days of her life.
Prov. 31:13 She looks for wool and flax, And works with her hands in delight.
Prov. 31:14 She is like merchant ships; She brings her food from afar.
Prov. 31:15 She rises also while it is still night, And gives food to her household, And portions to her maidens.
Prov. 31:16 She considers a field and buys it; From her earnings she plants a vineyard.
Prov. 31:17 She girds herself with strength, And makes her arms strong.
Prov. 31:18 She senses that her gain is good; Her lamp does not go out at night.
Prov. 31:19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hands grasp the spindle.
Prov. 31:20 She extends her hand to the poor; And she stretches out her hands to the needy.
Prov. 31:21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household, For all her household are clothed with scarlet.
Prov. 31:22 She makes coverings for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Prov. 31:23 Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land.
Prov. 31:24 She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies belts to the tradesmen.
Prov. 31:25 Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she smiles at the future.
Prov. 31:27 She looks well to the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.
Prov. 31:28 Her children rise up and bless her; Her husband also, and he praises her, saying:
Prov. 31:29 “Many daughters have done nobly, But you excel them all.”
Prov. 31:31 Give her the product of her hands, And let her works praise her in the gates.

Your Morning Devotional Quiet Time / Book of Proverbs
Proverbs / The Book of Wisdom
Reading your Bible each morning (if possible) and praying is pretty much a regular routine for everyone in my family. I wish I had learned this as our children have at a much younger age. Mornings seem to work best because there is ALWAYS something to take over the time later in the day.
If you do not already do this on a regular basis and don't really know where to start, a good place to begin is with the book of Proverbs. There are 31 days in most months so it's easy to find your place even without a bookmark. Today is September 1, so here a LINK to the Proverb for today--Chapter 1.
I like to choose at least one verse or two from each passage I read that I can think about during the day or that appeals to a specific need as I read along. I will be posting these on my Facebook wall as well. The one I chose from today's chapter which may be different from the one you choose is this:
Proverbs 1:33
No Sunday school lesson, just a thought for your day.
