National Ligonier Conference 2011 / Orlando, FL / Listen Live Online

I've blogged previously about Ligonier Conferences that our family has attended. Excellent teaching in the Reformed Christian faith.   This year's featured speakers are:
  • Sinclair Ferguson
  • W. Robert Godfrey
  • Steven Lawson
  • John Piper
  • R. C. Sproul
  • R.C. Sproul, Jr.
This year's  national conference topic is:  Light & Heat: A Passion for the Holiness of God.  It is this weekend beginning today in Orlando at First Baptist Church of Orlando.  Our family again will attend starting on Friday but will listen some online today LIVE.  So, if you are not planning to attend, and are interested in reformed theology, click HERE and check it out.  There will be live streaming lectures today, March 24, beginning at 1:00 p.m. (DST) through Saturday, March 26. A donation OF ANY AMOUNT is required on the site to listen.

A specific schedule of topics is at THIS LINK.

Here is an excerpt from Dr. Sproul's introductory letter:
...Several essential doctrines of the Christian faith are under attack in our day, even from within the church, and it is important that we be well grounded in these truths so that we may have a deep affection for our triune God. John Piper will join me and Ligonier teaching fellows Sinclair Ferguson, Robert Godfrey, Steven Lawson, and R.C. Sproul Jr. as we look at several important tenets of the faith, such as divine sovereignty, biblical worship, evangelism and missions, apologetics, and justification. John and I will also host special sessions on the history of the work of both Ligonier and Desiring God, and we will endeavor to share some of what we have learned in our ministries as pastors and theologians...

I'm sure you (and I) will be blessed by listening live, online or in person at the conference.

Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom
teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Colossians 4:3
...praying at the same time for us as well,
that God will open up to us a door for the word
so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ,

Ligonier Conference Washington DC Area in September

In June I had a few posts on the National Ligonier Conference that our family attended together.  You can view the sessions from that conference via webcast at THIS LINK.  Excellent. Great speakers, lots of meaningful sessions.  I regularly listen to Dr. R. C. Sproul's radio program Renewing Your Mind (lately, while exercising in the pool in the mornings).

If you live in the Washington, DC area, I encourage you to make plans to attend Ligonier's 2010 Regional Conference this September.     I would assume that the sessions will also be broadcast via the web, but you would need to check into that to verify.

Topic:

Being a Christian in a Post-Christian Culture

Recover a biblical understanding of the world around you.
Today, we are living in a post-Christian and even anti-Christian society where the holiness of God is mocked, Christians are silenced, and the gospel is largely seen as irrelevant, even in many professedly “Christian” churches. Those of us who are disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ often find it difficult to find our bearings in this ever-changing world, let alone shine the light of Christ into the darkest recesses of the culture.
In an effort to help believers learn how to live out the implications of the gospel in this culture, Ligonier Ministries is hosting a conference September 17–18, 2010, in Washington, D.C., featuring two of our four teaching fellows, Robert Godfrey and R.C. Sproul Jr., as well as, Thabiti AnyabwileAlbert Mohler, and Burk ParsonsDr. Sproul will also join us via live video feed for a live one on one with attendees. This conference will provide sound teaching as to how Christians can recover a biblical understanding of the world around us and, consequently, how we can reform our lives and our spheres of influence.

Amazing Grace

I heard a thought-provoking sermon yesterday morning from Dr. R.C. Sproul / Renewing Your Mind [Signs of Revival, Part 1]. I enjoy listening to him on the radio after my morning walks.

One of his final comments was: Amazing Grace... we sing that song often and most of us know the words by heart. But, deep inside, we really think that "heaven just wouldn't be the same without me". Ouch. It brought tears to my eyes and I immediately asked for forgiveness. When I slow down and reflect on the Grace that we have received, truly truly what a marvelous thing.

RECIPE: Kale Soup

Kale comes in such large packages. I don't really like it as well raw as cooked and  I had a LOT to use up. Found this recipe for kale ...
