Let Me Be A Woman Freedom / Elisabeth Elliot / Children / Mothers Day Series

Prayer #14 for Your Children:  Kindness

Lord, may my children "always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else".  (1 Thessalonians 5:15)

Let Me Be A Woman by Elisabeth Elliot

Chapter 14:  Freedom Through Discipline

In these two pages of the book Elisabeth talks about ships, highways, "obedience" signs such as  "Keep off the grass " and college student freedoms. In all of these examples people are not doing what they wanted to do in order to have something they wanted more.

In the example of the one who sails the ship obeys the rules of sailing and in doing so captures the power of the wind to sail farther and faster.

Car drivers obey stop signs, lane markings and speed limits so that everyone is safe both inside and outside of the car with less maintenance needed for the vehicle.

Staying off the grass ensures that there is lovely green grass to look at and enjoy when being in a park.

College students who disregard the body's need for sleep, exercise and good nutrition end up no longer being good students, the very thing they've come to college and paid $$ to be.

Such is the case of liberty and freedom.  It does not mean throwing aside all restrictions nor does it mean just doing what we want when we want to do it.  This is the behavior of an immature child, not an adult.  Although I have known and do know adults who behave in this manner.  Freedom through discipline means doing the thing that God created us to do.  What is it to which we are called, we women under God?
