Outings in Your Own Back Yard / Orange County Regional History Center

Sometimes there are fun things to do in your own back yard that get overlooked or just forgotten about.  Last Saturday I visited our local History Center.  I had not been there since our older son was about 12, so quite awhile ago.  It's in the downtown area, only about 25 minutes or so from our home.  A friend had downloaded two Smithsonian Free Museum Day tickets to tour the history center which expired  that day.

Here are the two  special exhibits currently at the History Center:

Against All Odds: The Art of the Highwaymen
What are highwaymen you wonder? Go HERE to find out.

There is an article in today's paper about the Highwaymen exhibit
that a friend told me about. Thanks, Susan.

The Story of Harness Racing by Currier & Ives

This  one continues to be on Christmas cards every year.

There are also many other exhibits relating to the history of Orange County --World War II, slavery, NASA, Disney, oranges, etc.

Don't forget to check out the pretty gift shop at the entrance!  Here's me being silly...but, hey, these glasses go with my outfit, don't you think?

The History Center begins the celebration of its 10-year anniversary this weekend.  On Saturday, October 2, admission is reduced to half-price which is $7.00 for adults and $3.50 for ages 5-12.  There will be games and special activities from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. that day.  Check it out.

Note:  Keep in mind that the Grand Opening of the Amway Arena is Saturday also, so it may be a bit crowded downtown.   The opening is a TICKETED event and a sweet friend called today and gave us three tickets!
