I made some beef stroganoff recently and used it in the recipe on the back of a box of stroganoff mix. I think I bought the mix at Wal-Mart when I had my last oil change. That's about the only time I ever go in the store.
First I cooked 1 lb. of ground beef and set aside. [You can also use any beef already cooked. I've used leftover pot roast, stir-fried beef and brisket in this recipe. The layering of the flavors always adds extra taste.]
I sauté onions until they are caramelized then mix with the beef. This time around, I was out of mushrooms, but adding those makes it even tastier.
The box always says to add 2 cups of milk to the mix. I always use one cup of milk and one cup of sour cream. Let it all simmer, covered, for about 15 minutes. I had time to play a word or two ...
The sour cream and additions, thickens the beef stroganoff nicely. I served it with corn on the cob, fresh collard greens and red strawberries/oranges. A fairly quick and easy meal and if I recall correctly, everything except the boxed stroganoff mix came from Aldi's. :)
