Valentines / Matters of the Heart/ Guard It

Valentines Quote for the Day:

Some people come into our lives and quickly go.  Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is another quote for whom the author is anonymous.  We recently attended a wedding for a young couple who had this quote in a thank you note at every guest's table setting at the dinner reception.  I don't remember having heard this one previously.
I would say that most people are in the first category of coming and quickly leaving.  Others, we may spend quite a bit of time with and the memories together are forever etched in our hearts.  This can be a good thing especially as it regards lifelong friends but it also has a negative side.  Because of this latter reality I always urge singles especially to guard your hearts carefully when spending extensive amounts of time with those of the opposite sex.  Men and boys, women and girls, be alert.   In general, most people will become (if they are not already) someone's spouse, so treat them as though they already are.  I have told this to my own sons and thankfully, as far as I can tell, that is how they treat girls, with great respect and care for their hearts.
Emotions are a wondrous part of life but they can be deceptive as well.  They can stay with you though, long after someone is no longer a part of your life.  As far as it depends on you, keep your memories pure so that they do not compete with a future (or current) spouse.   If and when you do marry,  be faithful to the one who has chosen to spend the rest of his/her life with you both physically and mentally.   It truly is the best gift you will ever give them and your children.
Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord. (Psalm 27: 14)
